Last Friday the general strike took place in Portugal. There were meetings, minimum wage approval, and more public service subsistence allowance.
General strike brings Portugal to a standstill
Trade union federations called a general strike in Portugal on Thursday 11 December against Prime Minister Luís Montenegro’s anti-worker labour law. The strike had a large following and represents an important turning point for the class struggle in Portugal. It has partially changed the mood in society and put class questions at the centre of public attention.
Unions argue that the reform, which aims to make it easier to dismiss employees for just cause in small and medium-sized businesses and lift limits on outsourcing, favors employers.
