Extending the time to endoscopic control from three to five years did not result in more cancer cases among patients who had high-risk adenomas removed from the colon, early data from a large study shows.
An international study led by Spanish and Norwegian researchers has shown that delaying the first surveillance colonoscopy from three to five years after the removal of advanced adenomas does not increase the risk of colorectal cancer or death from this disease.
Results from a randomized study suggest that patients who have had high-risk polyps removed can wait five years before being followed up with colonoscopy, without increasing their risk of cancer.
