FM Nirmala Sitharaman meets 3M CEO; explores expansion in advanced manufacturing and R&D
The talks focused on expanding 3M’s India footprint through advanced manufacturing, R&D and local supply chains, the Finance Ministry said.
- On Monday, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in South Carolina for G20 finance track meetings, received by India's Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.
- Sitharaman met with 3M Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Brown to deepen the multinational company's engagement with India, exploring how Indian talent and manufacturing could serve regional innovation and global supply chains.
- Brown noted, "There are many opportunities present for development of technology, as well as local markets," while acknowledging India's government support for structural reforms and the country's deep talent pool.
- The minister held high-level talks with American business leaders, including ADM Chief Financial Officer Monish Patolawala, Shield AI President Brandon Tseng, and Hyatt President Mark Hoplamazian, covering defence, hospitality, and agriculture sectors.
- United States goods and services trade with India totalled USD 239.6 billion in 2025, up 12.1 per cent from 2024, while the U.S. goods trade deficit with India surged 27.8 per cent to USD 58.4 billion.
