Israeli passenger says he knew what to do on flydubai plane after watching TV show
On Thursday, passengers on FlyDubai flight FZ1073 subdued a co-pilot who stabbed the captain, forcing an emergency diversion to Saudi Arabia and preventing a disaster.
The co-pilot attacked the captain, sending the plane into a 90-degree nose-dive that caused a 14,000ft altitude loss in less than one minute.
Israeli passenger Yaniv Hayun subdued the assailant using a chokehold and headphone cables, crediting the television show Air Crash Investigation for teaching him aircraft stabilization techniques.
In Jerusalem yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the passengers, calling them "heroes" for saving 174 people aboard the flight.
At Ben Gurion Airport, passenger Rajuan dismissed heroic characterizations, saying "It's something you do without thinking" when protecting family and fellow travelers.
One passenger, who helped prevent a disaster on a Flydubai flight carrying 170 people to Tel Aviv, Israel, shared that he knew how to control the plane as it was nose-diving because he had watched television programs about aviation accidents.
