Authorities warned of flash floods in 49 of Nepal’s 77 districts as rivers rose and roads were blocked by landslides.
- On Friday, heavy rain caused the Bagmati River to overflow, while landslides blocked the Prithvi Highway, BP Highway, and Kanti Lokpath, stranding vehicles and halting major road links connecting Kathmandu across Nepal.
- The Meteorological Forecasting Division warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces, as persistent downpours weakened the ground and increased landslide risks.
- Seven locations reported landslides, with sections at Krishnabhir and Tigraang Khola completely blocked; three incidents in Lalitpur and blockages at Charsayabensi and Gimdi in Kavrepalanchok forced one-lane restrictions at five other sites.
- Authorities imposed overnight restrictions on the Kavrepalanchok section, barring vehicles between 5pm and 5am until Sunday morning, and advised trekkers in the Himalayan region to suspend their plans.
- Twelve districts in Nepal remain at high risk of flooding, while the flood crisis has deepened across the border in Bihar, where over 50 lakh people have been affected across 15 districts.
