Fitzpatrick says pro-union bill dealing with contracts will pass U.S. House
Fitzpatrick said the bipartisan measure would speed first contracts for new unions and has enough support to force a House vote.
During a speech to the Pennsylvania Conference of Teamsters Convention in Hershey last week, Rep Brian Fitzpatrick, R-1st District, guaranteed members that the Faster Labor Contracts Act will pass the House.
Teamsters support the bipartisan Faster Labor Contracts Act because it would require employers to collectively bargain with newly organized workers within 10 days of voting to form a union.
The proposal has 98 House co-sponsors: 81 Democrats and 17 Republicans, with Fitzpatrick among the rare GOP backers of the legislation.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries seeks 218 signatures on a discharge petition to force a floor vote, though a conservative lobbying group has formally opposed the effort.
Fitzpatrick pledged to Teamsters President Sean O'Brien that "we will force that to the floor, and that is a guarantee," while the next step involves navigating the Senate.
