Firefox's AI Window Gets New Features Meant to Help You Stay on Task and Organized
Mozilla is adding source browsing, automatic tab groups and visual history previews as it expands Smart Window in Firefox beta.
On Tuesday, Mozilla revealed three new features for its AI-powered "Smart Window" beta in Firefox: web-browsing integration through an Exa partnership, automatic tab grouping, and visual history previews.
Initially announced last year as "AI Window," the mode serves as an AI assistant allowing users to query open tabs or browsing history using natural language, though it remains an opt-in beta feature.
According to Firefox AI senior staff product manager Steve Truong, Mozilla partnered with Exa to enable web-source browsing without leaving current windows, while user chats are not retained for model training or advertising.
Users can select from multiple AI models including Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite or Alibaba's Qwen3-235B-A22B-Instruct-2507, as head of Firefox Ajit Varma emphasizes an "agnostic" approach to AI features.
Future updates will introduce "recent browsing journeys" to help users resume previous sessions, though Varma noted there is no "precise date" yet for when Smart Window will officially leave beta.
