Firefighters battle huge blaze at Celtic Supporters Club as Scots shopping centre closed
A fire at Irvine No1 Celtic Supporters Club prompted a major emergency response with six fire appliances, forcing most of Rivergate Shopping Centre to close for safety.
- On Monday, fire crews responded to the Irvine No1 Celtic Supporters Club at the former Forum shopping centre on West Road after a blaze was reported around 11.30pm, remaining at the scene into Tuesday morning.
- The Forum building, largely disused since 2016, hosts the Irvine No1 Celtic Supporters Club and is attached to the Rivergate Shopping Centre, which is currently closed.
- Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilised six appliances and two high-reach vehicles at the peak, scaling back to three appliances by 8am Tuesday, while dramatic images show the roof ripped apart and no casualties reported.
- Rivergate Shopping Centre said it is closed with `no access through the Rivergate`, except for Asda and the outside Greggs unit, and advised finding alternative routes to the train station and nearby offices.
- Investigations are under way, with Police Scotland and emergency services continuing enquiries as the cause of the fire remains unknown.
