Fiona Phillips' Husband Shares Alzheimer's Update and Urges PM to 'Make a Difference'
Frizell shared a rare photo of Phillips and said 70,800 people in the UK have young-onset dementia, urging action on care reforms.
Former This Morning editor Martin Frizell shared an Instagram update on his wife, broadcaster Fiona Phillips, calling on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to help with "making a difference" for Alzheimer's sufferers.
Frizell noted that Phillips was once nearly appointed health minister by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to work alongside Burnham, who draws on his father's Alzheimer's diagnosis to champion better carer support.
Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2023, Phillips worked until the condition interfered with her ability to continue. Frizell explained she "didn't stop working till a couple of years ago," noting her ongoing frustration at being unable to work.
The Alzheimer's Society welcomed the government's commitment to social care reform, commenting that it looks forward to working with the new Prime Minister on policies to "leave a lasting legacy for people living with dementia now and in the future."
Alzheimer's is a "progressive condition" affecting memory and thinking skills; an estimated 70,800 people in the UK have young-onset dementia, with symptoms that "become more severe" over time, underscoring the urgency of systemic support.
