CDF Presses for End to US-Iran Stalemate
Pakistan said Munir pressed Iran and the United States to resume talks as the Strait of Hormuz remained a key issue in the conflict.
On Monday, August 24, 2026, Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Tehran, pushing for breaking the stalemate in the US-Iran conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit follows the collapse of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding last month, as renewed hostilities deepened the trust deficit between Washington and Tehran.
Munir traveled to Tehran days after a phone call with United States President Donald Trump, who reportedly asked Islamabad to use its influence to bring Iran back to the table.
Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations stated the visit produced "comprehensive discussions" on reopening the Strait, though Iranian officials stressed the United States must fulfill its MoU obligations.
Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi is expected in Tehran for separate talks on the Strait, while analysts say Munir faces significant challenges convincing Iranian counterparts to agree to a return to talks.
