FIA to Hear McLaren and Red Bull's Monaco GP Appeal Next Week
The FIA will hear the teams’ challenge after officials admitted Monaco’s pit-lane speed limit was miscalculated.
On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the FIA International Court of Appeal will convene in Paris to hear McLaren and Red Bull's challenges against the decision to overturn Alpine driver Pierre Gasly's pit-lane speeding penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Alpine successfully argued that FOM miscalculated pit-lane distance measurements, prompting stewards to rescind Gasly's penalties and reinstate his third-place finish at Monaco.
McLaren contends the penalty removal creates sporting inequity, as other competitors including Oscar Piastri and George Russell served their penalties during the race, negatively impacting their final standings.
Mercedes withdrew its own appeal after Russell dropped to 12th in final results, while Piastri warned the situation sets a "tricky precedent" regarding regulatory consistency.
The closed-door hearing follows the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, with the FIA to publish its decision as soon as possible after the August 25 proceedings in Paris.
Disgruntled by the decision of the FIA allowing Pierre Gasly to recover the third step of the podium at the Monaco Grand Prix, the McLaren and Red Bull teams will be able to plead their case on appeal on 25 August.
