- Federally Regulated Employers – Transportation and Communications acknowledged the Building Canada Strong Act, identifying the proposed Special Mediator as a practical improvement for encouraging productive collective bargaining through transparency.
- The Liberals propose the Special Mediator document arguments and publish reports identifying sticking points before talks break down. Hajdu says making reports public puts responsibility back on the parties and reduces the need for government intervention.
- While FETCO supports the direction, labour leaders have come out strongly this week against other proposals in the bill, arguing these additional measures would compromise workers' rights to strike.
- FETCO CEO Derrick Hynes emphasized that Canada must demonstrate it is a reliable and stable place to do business, noting the government must retain the option to take pre-emptive action to safeguard supply chains.
