- On Tuesday, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu announced the government will not cap airfares during the upcoming festive season, though airlines will be advised to maintain prices at a "reasonable level."
- Aviation Turbine Fuel costs have surged due to the West Asia crisis, with fuel accounting for around 40 to 43 per cent of airfares and significantly impacting airline operating budgets.
- To stabilize costs, the Union Cabinet approved a Rs 10,000-crore price stabilisation fund in June, while the government extended the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme providing Rs 150 crores to SpiceJet.
- Naidu emphasized that passenger convenience remains the priority as the government continuously engages with airlines. "They need to get the money, and our major priority right now is to ensure the passengers shouldn't face any inconvenience," he said.
- While addressing reporters during the signing of agreements for the next phase of the UDAN regional connectivity programme, Naidu noted the government has previously managed similar price situations during festivals and important events.
