Federal government delays plan to shut down Quebec food allergy lab: union
The federal government is delaying the closure of a food allergy testing lab in Longueuil, Quebec, by two years, postponing its shutdown to 2028.
The lab was originally scheduled to close at the end of April before the delay was announced.
Milton Dyck, national president of the Agriculture Union, described the delay as a significant victory for Canadians concerned about food safety and allergies.
The Longueuil lab is the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's only facility using advanced technology to verify nutrition labels, detect allergens, and test shellfish for marine toxins.
