FBI Uncovers 35 Potential New Victims in Romance Fraud Case Involving Man Who Posed as NFL Player
Investigators say the alleged scheme used fake accounts and fabricated bank records to win trust and steal more than $1 million from women.
- Daejon Love, a California native, faces charges of wire fraud and conspiracy after allegedly scamming over a dozen women out of more than $1 million by pretending to be a San Francisco 49ers player.
- Working with 18-year-old co-conspirator Taylor Chan, Love used fake social media accounts, fabricated workout videos, and falsified bank statements to gain victims' trust and solicit money.
- The FBI identified 35 additional potential victims since Love's arrest, while both Love and Chan remain in federal custody in Idaho facing a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
- Douglas Olson, FBI Portland office special agent in charge, denounced public mockery of victims, stating, "Victim blaming is unjust and harmful, and overlooks the calculated, highly manipulated lengths these individuals went to, to exploit and manipulate others."
- Records show Love has addresses in Stockton, Walnut Creek, and Northern-Central California, while Olson advised the public to verify individuals with real people, warning, "Fraud can happen to anyone.
