London station evacuated after 'number of passengers complained of feeling ill'
Emergency services evacuated the station after 14 people felt unwell, and no elevated chemical readings were detected, firefighters said.
Farringdon station was evacuated Thursday morning after reports of a suspected gas leak, with a small number of passengers reporting feeling unwell. The busy Zone 1 interchange closed its doors at 9:50 am.
Officers from the British Transport Police arrived at 9:42 am following the initial report, with ambulance and fire crews conducting enquiries as the station remained closed. Witnesses reported multiple emergency vehicles at the location.
Thameslink services between London Blackfriars and Pancras are suspended "until further notice," and the central London section of the Elizabeth line is suspended. Commuters on the Circle, Hammersmith and City, and Metropolitan lines face disruption.
Disruption is currently expected until 11:45 am, with passengers encouraged to find alternative travel routes. Footage shared on social media shows a large number of emergency vehicles at Farringdon as the situation unfolds.
Separately, minor delays affect the Jubilee and Northern lines due to points failures at Stanmore and Camden Town. The London Tube network faces compounded disruption as the Farringdon closure coincides with these additional service issues.
