Gareth Southgate: Too many families can't afford sports kit
A YouGov survey found 15% of parents said children gave up sport because they could not afford kit or equipment.
Starting today, May 7, Amazon is launching an initiative matching every third purchase of selected sports products with a donation to The Multibank through June 4.
Former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate warned that families struggle to afford sports kit, as new YouGov data reveals 15% of parents say their children have abandoned sporting ambitions due to financial constraints.
Data shows 72% of parents believe lack of access to equipment limits opportunities for lower-income families, while 40% of parents with household income under £30,000 cited football as the main activity their children quit.
The Multibank has distributed 16 million items to 2 million families across the UK, with Sir Gareth joining the campaign following a request from former prime minister Gordon Brown.
Sir Gareth emphasized that "in a time when there's a risk kids end up in front of screens," staying active and outside is important, and every child deserves the right to participate in sport.
