- Union Minister Rijiju credited the move to the MLAs' admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's performance, stating they were "extremely impressed and influenced by Modi and our BJP-led government's performance."
- This defection increases the BJP's strength from two to 10 in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly, while the UDP is left with four; notably, all eight representatives won from ST-reserved constituencies.
- Despite this shift, the BJP and the UDP remain coalition partners within the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance , which includes the National People's Party .
- The eight defectors include Lahkmen Rymbui, Pius Marwein, Kyrmen Shylla, Mayralborn Syiem, Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah, Ollan Singh Suin, Balajied Kupar Synrem, and Synshar Lyngdoh Thabah.
