Exclusive-Snorkel AI valued at $3.5 billion amid surging demand for complex AI training data

The startup said annualized revenue run-rate topped $350 million as it shifts toward finished datasets and reinforcement-learning environments.

  • On Tuesday, Snorkel AI raised $350 million in fresh funding at a $3.5 billion valuation, CEO Alex Ratner told Reuters. The capital will support the data startup's work supplying training datasets to frontier AI laboratories.
  • Founded in 2019 by Stanford researchers, Snorkel shifted last year from selling software to offering 'data-as-a-service' directly to customers. The pivot followed growing demand from developers seeking harder, high-stakes datasets to train increasingly capable AI systems.
  • Insight Partners and S32 led the funding round, with participation from existing investors Addition, Greylock, and Wells Fargo. Snorkel's annualized revenue run-rate has crossed $350 million, up from roughly $20 million a year earlier.
  • Utilizing an 'agentic data development platform,' Snorkel pairs human experts with AI to create and vet datasets. Ratner said the capital will fund researcher hiring and expand enterprise and government operations, with profitability expected this year.
  • Venture funding continues to flow into the training-data sector, transformed by Meta's $14.3 billion purchase of a 49% stake in Scale AI in June 2025. Rivals including Mercor and Handshake have also seen rapid revenue growth in this expanding market.
