Canadian lender TD tells some employees it will use software to monitor their work
TD says WorkiQ will help managers allocate resources and track workflow, while the bank says safeguards protect employee privacy.
Toronto-Dominion Bank is deploying WorkiQ software to track employee activity among its financial crimes and risk management staff, monitoring time spent on browsers, internal chat, and meeting applications.
Deanna Pacitti, TD's associate vice president of high-risk investigations, addressed staff privacy concerns during a call on Thursday, clarifying that the tool tracks activity but will not listen to meeting conversations.
TD claims the deployment is "standard practice across the industry," yet employees suggested the resources used for monitoring would be better spent alleviating manual work processes instead.
Meta is dialing back plans to collect employee mouse movements and keystrokes for AI training following weeks of staff resistance, reflecting broader corporate pushback against workplace monitoring software.
Following significant money laundering fines in recent years, TD has expanded its compliance unit; management is now working to determine specific time expectations for unaccounted-for work hours.
