Who Is Tim Montgomerie? Reform UK Supporter Suspended After Criticising Nigel Farage Ally
The founder of ConservativeHome was suspended after saying Reform UK faced internal tensions and leadership rivalries in a Spectator podcast interview.
On Tuesday, Reform UK suspended Tim Montgomerie, the ConservativeHome founder who switched from the Conservatives after 33 years to join the party in December 2024.
Tensions escalated after Montgomerie criticized senior Reform figure Zia Yusuf for calling Conservative Defence Secretary Ben Wallace "a traitor" on social media, which Nigel Farage described as "going to far."
Montgomerie doubled down on his criticism during The Spectator's Coffee House Shots podcast, stating Yusuf has "consistently freelanced on Twitter" over major party policies and urging him to be a "team player."
During the interview, the former ConservativeHome founder suggested party leader Farage has "fallen out of love with Zia" and speculated that Yusuf views himself as Farage's potential successor.
The suspension occurred after the podcast was recorded but before it was posted online, with The Mirror reporting the decision resulted from Montgomerie's public criticism of the party.
