EU Relations: Swiss Committee Proposes Immigration Tax
The levy would be collected from employers and family reunification arrivals, with revenue redistributed to the population, as the Senate prepares to review the plan.
The Swiss Senate’s Political Institutions Committee has gone further than the government on the issue of the safeguard clause relating to immigration within the Switzerland–EU package of agreements.
The Committee on Political Institutions of the Council of States wants to add a tax on immigration to the arsenal of 'safeguard clauses' in the future package of agreements with the European Union. The Council of States will take a decision at the autumn session.
