The EU held an emergency meeting on Wednesday following reports of plague infections in Russia, Expressen reports. "The lack of information from Russia means that we are still groping in the dark about how serious the situation is," writes Social Democrats MP Heléne Fritzon in a comment to the newspaper.
"We called on Russia to provide rapid and transparent information about this incident that occurred in a laboratory in Siberia, because we consider it essential to have reliable epidemiological and microbiological data."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterates that the only reliable source of information is official announcements from Rospotrebnadzor, the Russian state health service.
Claims of a plague outbreak in Russia's Siberia region, following the death of a person from pneumonia of unknown cause, have become a topic of discussion in the European Union. EU health ministers will meet today to discuss the developments. The ECDC, however, has stated that according to current information, there is no evidence of the disease spreading. 🚆
