France requested a delay to a scheduled EU vote this week on the free-trade agreement with Mercosur countries—Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay—mainly due to insufficient protections for European agriculture.
The free trade agreement between the countries of South America and the EU, denounced by the trade unions and most of the political class, is due to take another step next week.
The French government criticises the Mercosur agreement, also because of the pressure of farmers. According to the current situation, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu does not want to agree.
