The Council today defined its position on a review of legislation to increase the allocation of free emission allowances to sectors covered by the EU Emissions Trading System reference values for heat and fuels from 2026 to 2030, the institution announced in press release.
EU member states have urgently agreed to relax EU climate policy for heavy industry. Free ETS allowances will help companies remain competitive in the global market. Polish MEPs have announced they will fight for an even larger pool of support.
The Council has established its position on a revised law to increase, from 2026 to 2030, free carbon permits for sectors that comply with heat and fuel ETS.
