The Ertzaintza (Basque Police), in coordination with local police forces, will intensify enforcement measures to prevent distracted driving on the Basque Country's road network this weekend, from May 8th to 10th. In 2025, distracted or inattentive driving was one of the leading causes of traffic accidents, accounting for 40% of recorded incidents, even more so than inappropriate speed or driving under the influence of alcohol.
