Eritrea announced on Friday 12 December its withdrawal from the Igad, a bloc of East African States, with headquarters in Djibouti. In its communiqué, Asmara stated that the organization, formed by eight countries including Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan and Uganda, "does not contribute significantly to the stability of the region." The situation in Sudan and the disagreements with Ethiopia could explain this rupture.
