European Parliament Member Engin Eroglu called for the release of imprisoned Uyghur scholar Ilham Tohti, marking twelve years since his life sentence. Eroglu praised Tohti's peaceful advocacy, highlighted his family's continued separation, and reaffirmed his commitment to defending human rights and freedom of expression.
Engin Eroğlu, Head of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with the People's Republic of China, called for the release of Uyghur academic Ilham Tohti on the 12th anniversary of his life sentence in China. Eroğlu stated that he met with Tohti's daughter, Jewher Ilham, at the European Parliament, adding, "I stand with Ilham Tohti, his family, and all those who are peacefully fighting for the rights of the Uyghurs."
