Grid congestion: No space on power grid for nearly half of newly built homes
There is no available capacity on the electricity grid for hundreds of thousands of power connection requests for newly built homes, reported Netbeheer Nederland, the association of Dutch grid operators. Applications for power connections have been submitted for approximately 600,000 homes over the next three years. There is no room for nearly half of them.
By July 1, grid operators had received approximately 600,000 applications for a home electricity connection; half of these can be granted over the next three years. That is enough for the 100,000 homes per year that the Jetten cabinet intends to build.
For nearly half of the homes for which a power connection has been requested in recent months, there is no capacity on the electricity grid for the next three years. This is evident from an initial national analysis by Netbeheer Nederland. In total, applications have been received for approximately 600,000 homes.

Enexis lacks grid capacity for approximately 86,000 homes whose construction is scheduled to start in the next three years. The grid operator received applications for grid connections for the construction of around 140,000 new homes, but there is currently no space on the grid for the majority of these homes.
More than half of all housing construction applications received by grid operators before July 1 can be connected in the next three years. Nevertheless, Enexis already has 86,000 housing projects on the waiting list.
