Belgian wages have risen by roughly the same amount as the price of petrol over the past 10 years. On Tuesday, the price rose to its highest level since July 2022. The conflict in the Middle East could still cause shocks to oil prices in the short term, but lower prices seem possible in the longer term.
Price increases for oil and gas have occurred frequently throughout history: in 1973/74, during the oil crisis of 1979/80, the financial crisis of 2008/09, and also at the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
