Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin Return For ‘Sicario 3’
The sequel is being shopped to studios and aims to reunite the original trio for a trilogy capper after the 2023 writers strike delay.
Director Padraic McKinley and screenwriter Steven Knight are attached to Sicario 3, with original stars Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin set to return for the crime thriller sequel.
The project serves as a trilogy capper for the world created by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, reuniting the original lead trio after Blunt sat out the 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
Producers Molly Smith of Black Label Media and Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road are shopping the package to potential studios, aiming to move forward after delays caused by the 2023 Hollywood writers strike.
McKinley directs following his Sundance debut, The Weight, while Knight penned the script; returning stars remain active, with Del Toro earning an Oscar nomination and Brolin starring in Dune: Part III.
Production is slated to begin early next year, concluding the saga that began with Denis Villeneuve's original 2015 film, Sicario.
