Ema Raises $77M to Replace Traditional Software Licenses With AI Agents
The startup said revenue grew 50-fold in two years and bookings topped $150 million as customers expand use across dozens of workflows.
- The Mountain View-headquartered startup Ema raised $77 million in a Series B round led by venture firm Creaegis, with existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus increasing their stakes.
- Founded in 2023 by Surojit Chatterjee and Souvik Sen, Ema has grown to nearly 200 employees while securing more than 50 active enterprise deals and handling more than 5 million actions and queries.
- Ema first "wraps" around an enterprise's existing applications, Chatterjee said, while the company reports gross margins of close to 80% and a net dollar retention rate around 180%.
- Revenue bookings have surpassed $150 million, with major customers including Google, Microsoft, PwC, KPMG, ADP, Hitachi, Wipro, and NTT DATA. Chatterjee stated more than 90% of customers expanded beyond initial deployments.
- While major AI labs like Anthropic and OpenAI push into enterprise markets, Chatterjee said Ema benefits from progress in frontier models. The startup focuses on domain knowledge and orchestration needed to automate processes end-to-end.
