Efforts afoot to repatriate remains of 3 Pakistanis
The government is arranging transport for the remains as Ethiopian Airlines prepares clearance for onward flight to Karachi, officials said.
- Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's instructions, the government is arranging to repatriate the bodies of three Pakistani sailors killed during the rescue of the hijacked Honour 25 oil tanker near Somalia.
- Somali pirates seized the Honour on April 21, but during a rescue operation off the coast of Dharin-baar, pirates opened fire, killing five crew members, including three Pakistanis.
- The bodies of the deceased arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday, while diplomats from Pakistan, India, and Indonesia are in Garoowe assisting three injured Pakistani nationals at a local hospital.
- On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Azhan Kashif, the son of the deceased, assuring him that "every possible effort is being made" to facilitate transportation of the mortal remains.
- Ethiopian Airlines staff are currently inspecting coffins in Addis Ababa, with final clearance for the onward flight to Karachi expected once medical and travel permissions are formally issued.
