NEITI Audit: EFCC Confirms N115bn Statutory Levies Recovery From Oil Companies

EFCC said 24 oil companies owed N76.883 billion and $81.076 million in NDDC levies, with part of the money already released.

  • The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday disclosed that it recovered over N115 billion in statutory levies owed to the Niger Delta Development Commission by oil companies between 2021 and 2023.
  • Francis Oka-Phillips Usani explained the probe stemmed from a Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative audit of 43 oil firms, identifying 24 companies with liabilities in the Niger Delta while clearing 19 others.
  • Of the N76.883 billion and $81.076 million recovered, the EFCC released N73.373 billion and $67.070 million to the NDDC, while holding a balance of N3.510 billion and $14.005 million in its recovery account.
  • Following the presentation, the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, led by Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, rejected an attempt by TotalEnergies to defend audit queries, citing inadequate representation during the investigative session.
  • The committee issued a "last chance" warning to the Managing Directors of South Atlantic Petroleum Limited, Oando Oil Limited, Famfa Oil, and Green Energy International Limited, mandating their physical appearance to address outstanding audit queries.
