Nigeria: EFCC Arraigns Peace Corps Commandant, Finance Director for Alleged Fraud

The National Commandant and Finance Director face charges for allegedly converting N46 million from a N60 million contract fund, both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail.

  • An EFCC statement on Friday said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraigned Dickson Akoh, National Commandant, and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, Director of Finance, on a two-count charge over alleged N60,000,000 misappropriation before Justice H. B. Yusuf at the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja.
  • The charges say funds meant for a badges contract were dishonestly converted, with prosecutors alleging N46,000,000 of N60,000,000 was misappropriated in 2024 under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT.
  • Both defendants pleaded not guilty, and prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi requested a trial commencement date, which EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed.
  • Justice H. B. Yusuf adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026 and granted bail, requiring one credible surety of reputable character and resident in Abuja for each defendant.
  • Founded in 1998 by Mr Akoh, the Peace Corps of Nigeria rose to prominence during former President Muhammadu Buhari's administration, but its bid to become government-owned stalled when Buhari withheld assent.
