The Oilers also placed Matt Savoie and Alec Regula on long-term injured reserve and recalled Josh Samanski under emergency conditions.
- On Thursday, the Edmonton Oilers placed forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve and recalled forward Josh Samanski from AHL Bakersfield under emergency conditions.
- Compounding early-season challenges, the Oilers placed Matt Savoie and Alec Regula on long-term injured reserve after their 6-5 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.
- Recalled forward Samanski signed a two-year, $1.95 million contract with the Oilers on April 2, 2025, recording eight goals and 23 assists in 45 games for AHL Bakersfield last season.
- Head coach Mike Babcock described Nugent-Hopkins as day-to-day, estimating a recovery timeline of "two weeks," while NHL emergency conditions allowed the team to bypass standard recall rules.
- Analysts and fans expressed concern regarding the lineup's stability without key contributors, as the team faces significant pressure to maintain depth with Jason Dickinson also sidelined.
