Mortal Kombat Isn’t Done Ripping Spines Out Yet
Boon said NetherRealm is pursuing another Mortal Kombat game, while leaks and voice-actor clues keep a new Injustice project in play.
NetherRealm boss Boon confirmed the studio is actively developing another Mortal Kombat game during an interview, keeping details regarding the project title and release timeline under wraps.
Development follows Mortal Kombat 1's 8 million copies sold in 2023, which underperformed compared to Mortal Kombat 11's over 15 million copies sold worldwide after three years.
Rumors regarding a follow-up to Injustice 2 persist despite no official studio confirmation, with evidence including LinkedIn profiles and voice actor comments suggesting a third entry is in development.
Boon suggested NetherRealm is pursuing projects beyond games, stating "So there's a lot of pots on the stove; not just with games though, with other forms of media and whatnot."
With Summer Game Fest approaching on June 5, fans may receive an announcement soon, as Boon expressed interest in potential crossovers involving Street Fighter, Marvel, or Joker.
