The European Central Bank's Isabel Schnabel could leave the central bank earlier than planned for a job with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Handelsblatt newspaper reported today.
Isabel Schnabel had in the meantime been acted as a possible successor to ECB President Christine Lagarde. Now she seems to seek a position with the Monetary Fund instead.
According to the Handelsblatt, the Germans could leave the European Central Bank before the end of their term of office, bringing a major transformation closer to the ECB's top.
Isabel Schnabel could take over the direction of the Markets Department at the IMF, it says. Should the ECB banker leave prematurely, three top jobs of the central bank might be re-occupied in one slide.
