East Zone Clinch Duleep Trophy After 13 Years
East Zone clinched its third title after a 708-run first innings and a 372-run lead left South Zone unable to force a win.
On Thursday, East Zone claimed the Duleep Trophy title following a draw against South Zone in Chennai, marking the team's third championship victory under skipper Ishan Kishan.
A massive 708-run first-innings total established East Zone's dominance, securing a 372-run lead that effectively settled the contest without requiring an outright result.
South Zone collapsed as they were bowled out for 336 runs; captain Tilak Varma and C.V. Milind added 78 for the seventh wicket before the lower order folded quickly.
Captain Kishan scored a brisk 80, while 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was stumped by off-spinner T. Vijay after charging down the pitch to entertain the crowd.
Ending a 14-year wait, East Zone claimed their first title since consecutive victories in 2011/12 and 2012/13, signaling a significant return to form for the squad.
