Earthquakes score 5 times after halftime and beat Austin FC 5-1 to move into 1st place in the West
Preston Judd scored twice and Timo Werner added a penalty as San Jose earned its fifth straight win and moved into first place in the Western Conference.
On Wednesday, the San Jose Earthquakes defeated Austin FC 5-1, moving into sole possession of first place in the Western Conference for the first time since 2012.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime after Joseph Rosales scored nine minutes into the game for Austin, the Earthquakes dominated possession with a 37-6 edge in shots at PayPal Park.
Jack Jasinski scored his first MLS goal in the 58th minute to tie the match, and Timo Werner put San Jose ahead for good with a 78th-minute penalty kick.
Preston Judd scored twice in the final minutes while Ousseni Bouda added a goal, tying him with Judd for the team lead with five goals this season.
San Jose holds the best record in MLS at 8-1-0 and will look to extend its club-record four-game road winning streak on Saturday against St. Louis CITY SC.
