Elon Musk’s Grok Still Generates Nonconsensual Sexualized Images Despite Curbs: Reuters
Grok generated sexualized images in 29 tested cases despite warnings, prompting investigations by U.S., EU, UK, and others into xAI's inadequate content controls.
- On Tuesday, investigators searched X’s Paris headquarters in a widening probe, with the Paris public prosecutor’s office cybercrime unit, a specialised unit of the national gendarmerie, and Europol confirming the operation on X.
- After new reports tied Grok to illicit material, prosecutors widened the probe following two reports received in January 2025 linking Grok, the AI chatbot, to Holocaust denial material and sexually explicit deepfakes.
- An analysis by New York Times and Center for Countering Digital Hate found Grok posted more than 4.4 million images in nine days, with 44 per cent likely sexually explicit images of women and around 65 per cent overall.
- Elon Musk has been formally summoned and executives including Linda Yaccarino have been called to give evidence, with voluntary interviews in Paris on 20 April 2026 and X employees summoned between 20 and 24 April 2026.
- The European Commission said it is liaising with French authorities as UK regulators including the ICO and Ofcom escalate probes, while the Paris prosecutor’s office listed alleged offences under investigation.
