Dylan Larkin plays and scores in his first game for the Red Wings since asking for a trade
He returned from injury, took early boos from home fans and scored 13 minutes into his first game back.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, center Dylan Larkin returned to the Detroit Red Wings lineup against the Ottawa Senators at Little Caesars Arena, scoring a first-period goal to give Detroit a 2-1 lead.
Controversy has surrounded Larkin since he requested a trade shortly after last season; the Red Wings stripped him of his captaincy in September, though he remains under contract through 2030-31 at $8.7 million annually.
Returning from an upper-body injury that sidelined him since mid-August, Larkin received strong support from teammate Moritz Seider, who said, "I think he's going to help us, hopefully a big spark."
Though fans booed upon his first shift Tuesday, the crowd's reaction turned mixed when Larkin scored, generating both cheers and jeers in the arena.
Management's preference remains working through the situation, as no trade offers have matched Larkin's value to the Red Wings, keeping the center in the lineup despite uncertainty.
