The famous white lion - the landmark cut into the chalk hills at Whipsnade Zoo - is being illuminated every Wednesday night until the end of the year to mark the Zoological Society of London’s 200th anniversary. There have been crowds in the area at dusk, especially at Ivinghoe Beacon, to view the sight.
