Duleep Trophy Final — Ishan Kishan Says Having Shami at His Disposal a Confidence Boost
Kishan said Shami’s intensity and hunger have lifted East Zone, and the veteran pacer has taken 5 wickets in the tournament.
East Zone captain Ishan Kishan praised Mohammed Shami's "hunger and motivation" for an India comeback ahead of the Duleep Trophy final against South Zone on Sunday.
Shami has followed a fine Ranji Trophy 2025/26 campaign for Bengal with a strong Duleep Trophy, cementing his reputation with 903 career wickets and a 100th First-Class appearance looming.
Kishan noted Shami's changed intensity and willingness to request extra overs to secure wickets, signaling his desire to rejoin India after the Champions Trophy 2025 final appearance.
South Zone skipper Tilak Varma acknowledged the challenge, stating, "It will be a good competition for us playing against Shami bhai," while confirming his team's readiness.
Kishan also addressed the tight turnaround before India's first T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi, scheduled three days after the final, emphasizing age is merely a number.
