Duke Energy Urges NC Customers to Reduce Power Usage to Prevent Outages, Electrical Grid Issues
Customers in the Carolinas are urged to reduce morning electricity use on Feb. 2 to ease grid strain amid cold weather, with Duke Energy citing temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal.
- Duke Energy asked Carolinas customers to voluntarily reduce energy use on Monday, Feb. 2, between 4 and 10 a.m. to lessen grid demand.
- After Saturday's winter storm, extremely cold temperatures 10 to 20 degrees below normal are driving high energy demand across the East Coast, including the Carolinas, Duke Energy said.
- Duke Energy advised customers to reduce thermostats to the lowest comfortable setting, turn off unnecessary devices and unused plug-ins, and charge devices midday with guidance for electric vehicle owners.
- Duke Energy said it is maximizing generation, purchasing power and working with large commercial and industrial customers with demand response programs while thanking customers for their cooperation and patience.
