Ducks Claim First Playoff Series Win Since 2017, Oust Oilers
Anaheim ended an eight-year playoff drought and beat the two-time defending Western Conference champions in six games behind a young core and veteran additions.
On Thursday, the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 in Game 6, securing their first postseason series win since 2017 and eliminating the two-time defending Western Conference champions.
Anaheim stormed to a 3-1 series lead while pumping 20 goals past the Oilers; Edmonton showed poise in Game 5, but the Ducks scored three goals in the first period of Game 6 to seal the series.
Left wing Chris Kreider celebrated his 35th birthday with a goal, while Troy Terry, Leo Carlsson, Cutter Gauthier, and Ryan Poehling also scored as goaltender Lukas Dostal made 25 saves.
Ducks coach Joel Quenneville said, "The future has finally arrived in Orange County," while Oilers captain Connor McDavid lamented, "We were an average team all year."
With a second-round berth secured, the Ducks await the winner of the Vegas Golden Knights vs. Utah Mammoth series, which Vegas currently leads 3-2.
