Drug Trafficking: NDLEA Warns Nigerians Against Accepting Consignments From Abroad
Babafemi said 7 suspects were arrested after NDLEA intercepted Colorado, opioids and other drugs hidden in cargoes, speakers and bread nationwide.
- On Sunday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency warned Nigerians against accepting consolidated cargoes from abroad, citing a growing trend of illicit drugs like Colorado and Loud concealed in packages sent to unsuspecting family members.
- Trafficking syndicates increasingly use family members and friends as unwitting consignees, placing them at risk of arrest and prosecution. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said several Nigerians are already behind bars for receiving such contaminated shipments.
- Recent operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport resulted in the interception of 32.20kg of Colorado, while shipments hidden in music speakers were recovered at Lagos motor parks, leading to at least seven suspects being arrested.
- Daily enforcement operations yielded significant seizures across the country: 669.425kg of pregabalin in Kano, 157,100 capsules of tramadol in Plateau State, and destruction of 4,832.56kg of skunk on cannabis farms in Edo State during the week.
- NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa urged officers to sustain the agency's balanced approach, while commands continued War Against Drug Abuse sensitization activities in schools and communities to discourage illicit drug involvement.
