Ukraine’s Top Commander Scrapped More than 30 Obsolete General Staff Orders, Freeing Field Commanders From Paperwork Built for Different War
The purge removes decade-old training and reporting rules, freeing commanders from paperwork that no longer fits combat conditions, officials said.

- Many cancelled orders date back to the 2016–2020 Anti-Terrorist Operation and Joint Forces Operation in the Donbas, clashing with standards Ukrainian units developed under fire after Russia's invasion.
- Field commanders no longer must complete reports based on standards eight to ten years old, said Vitalii Sarantsev, communications chief of the 14th Army Corps, who announced the move on Facebook.
- Sarantsev stressed that Drapatyi has "rid the military of a heap of old bureaucratic junk," allowing the force to operate faster with less bureaucracy.
- Following his appointment in July, Drapatyi continues to shift the Armed Forces toward a Western military playbook, replacing the Soviet-era command model used under predecessor Oleksandr Syrskyi.
