Downtown Kentucky Bar District Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 4 Injured
Police said five people were shot during a community event, and no suspect information has been released as investigators continue the case.
On Saturday, Aug 15, gunfire erupted at Charles Young Park during the East End Day community event, killing one person and injuring four others, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Following the shooting, the City of Lexington enacted an Emergency Mobilization Plan at 7:24 p.m., declaring a police staffing emergency that required all third-shift officers to report for duty.
Police charged 18-year-old Jametrius Griffin with murder and assault late Sunday, after the shooting killed 16-year-old Di'Zhon Robertson and injured four others, including a 4-year-old and a 14-year-old.
Devine Carama, director of ONE Lexington, announced community healing spaces beginning Monday at the Dunbar Community Center to support those impacted by the traumatic event.
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, while investigators continue soliciting leads through the Bluegrass Crime Stoppers line at 253-2020.
