Double Double – #22 with 2 goals in a 4-2 Spruce Kings Win
The Prince George Spruce Kings finished off a home opening weekend sweep with a 4-2 win over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday night at Kopar Memorial Arena. The Silverbacks got on the board at 2:22 of the opening period as Jack Toogood put home a rebound in tight on the man advantage to make it 1-0. Prince George took a little longer to get going but Rhett Tubello got the game tied up when his shot deflected off the end glass, and popped back out front, where he found the rebound to slip it past Kasey Fuson. The middle frame was even until Michael Denney used some off the glass magic to give the Spruce Kings the lead as his shot bounced right back into the slot and he slid it home to make it 2-1. Denney would get his second of the night shorthanded in the third period, walking down the left side and cutting to the middle before snapping it back across the grain for a 3-1 lead. With the game winding down, Ethan Facchina got the Silverbacks within a goal, but Ryan Wachtel stripped Cash Olson at the blueline and sealed it with an empty netter. The Spruce Kings are 3-1 to start the season, and will welcome the 2-2 Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday at 6 PM and Sunday at 2 PM next weekend. Get your tickets at www.sprucekings.bc.ca/tickets
